Instructions

Mask

  1. R1: sc 6 in magic circle (6)
  2. R2: *inc* × 6 (12)
  3. R3: *sc 2, inc* × 4 (16)
  4. R4: *sc 2, inc, inc* × 4 (24)
  5. R5: sc 3, inc, inc, *sc 4, inc, inc* × 3, sc (32)
  6. R6: sc 4, inc, inc, *sc 6, inc, inc* × 3, sc 2 (40)
  7. R7: sc 5, inc, inc, *sc 8, inc, inc* × 3, sc 3 (48)
  8. R8: sc 5, dec, dec, *sc 8, dec, dec* × 3, sc 3 (40)
  9. R9–10: sc for entire row (40)
  10. R11–12: sc 16 and bind off. Make a slip knot and place it on the hook. Skip 11 stitches then start stitching again. sc to the end of the row. (29)
  11. R13: sc 16, ch 11, start sc stitches on the other side of the mask hole, sc to the end of the row. (40)
  12. R14: sc 16, sc over the 11 chains, sc to the end of the row. (40)
  13. R15: sc 21, ch 4, skip 2 stitches then reconnect, sc to the end. The four chains will stick out slightly — this helps the mouth hole stay open. (42)
  14. R16: sc 21, sc 4 over the chains, sc to the end of the row. (42)
  15. R17: sc for entire row (42)
  16. R18: *sc 6, dec, dec* × 2, sc 9, dec, dec, sc 5, dec, dec (34)
  17. R19: sc 5, dec, dec, sc 4, dec, dec, sc 5, dec, dec, sc 4, dec, dec (26)
  18. Bind off.
  19. Make and attach the Nose Bridge (see next section).
  20. Using red yarn, sew chain stitches around the eye holes and mouth hole.
  21. Tie off all ends inside the mask and trim so they don't show as bumps.

Nose Bridge

light blue
  1. Make a slip knot and ch 2.
  2. R1: skip the chain closest to the hook and hdc into the next chain (1)
  3. Bind off.
  4. Sew the bridge to the center of the eye gap in the mask. It should be slightly shorter than the gap so it pulls the mask up a little to help shape the eye holes.

Head

  2. R2: *inc* × 6 (12)
  3. R3: *sc 2, inc* × 4 (16)
  4. R4: *sc 2, inc, inc* × 4 (24)
  5. R5: sc 3, inc, inc, *sc 4, inc, inc* × 3, sc (32)

  8. R8: sc 5, dec, dec, *sc 8, dec, dec* × 3, sc 3 (40)
  9. R9–16: sc for entire row (40)
  10. Add the safety eyes between rows 11 and 12 at stitches 19 and 25. Sew eyebrows above each eye with brown embroidery thread. Put the head inside the mask to confirm the eyes show through the eye holes — you can leave the mask on while finishing the head or squeeze it on afterwards.
  11. Begin stuffing the head.
  12. R17: *sc 6, dec, dec* × 4 (32)
  13. R18: sc 5, dec, dec, sc 4, dec, dec, sc 4, dec, dec, sc 5, dec (25)
  14. R19: sc 5, dec, *sc 4, dec* × 3 (21)
  15. R20: dec × 11 (leave one stitch undone — it becomes the start of the last row) (11)
  16. R21: dec × 5 (5)
  17. Bind off.

Body

beige
  1. R1: sc 6 in magic circle (6)
  2. R2: *inc* × 6 (12)
  3. R3: *sc, inc* × 6 (18)
  4. R4: *sc, inc* × 9 (27)
  5. R5–12: sc for entire row (27)
  6. R13: *sc, dec* × 9 (18)
  7. Using light brown embroidery thread or thin yarn, sew two French knots between rows 10 and 11 with 4–5 stitches between each. Secure the ends.
  8. Begin stuffing the body.
  9. R14: *sc, dec* × 6 (12)
  10. R15: *dec* × 6 (6)
  11. Finish stuffing. The closing hole won't be fully closed — the head will be sewn on top and will close it.
  12. Bind off.

Arm (make two)

beige
  1. R1: sc 5 in magic circle (5)
  2. R2–8: sc for entire row (5)
  3. Stuff lightly halfway up the arm. Stuffing too high will make the arm stand out instead of resting against the body.
  4. R9: hold the hole closed and sc 2 stitches through the front and back loops to close. (2)
  5. Bind off.

Cape

red
  1. Make a slip knot and ch 25.

  3. R2–11: hdc for entire row, ch 1 and turn. (24)
  4. Bind off.
  5. Using short pieces of yellow yarn (about 3 inches), use a latch hook stitch to add tassels along the top edge of the cape. Trim to desired length.

Assembly

  1. Sew the legs next to each other at the bottom center of the uniform bottoms.
  2. Sew the uniform bottoms to the bottom of the body.
  3. Sew the arms to each side of the body.
  4. Attach the cape using one of two methods: (a) add strings to the corners to tie around Nacho, or (b) sew the cape to the body and attach a separate string that ties into a bow at the front.
  5. Sew the head to the body.
